“We expect you to be a lifelong learner, and we value your development in areas additional to theology and ministry. We may not be able to employ you forever, and you may one day desire something else outside of this position. We are here to support you long-term, ensuring you have meaningful and marketable options for your future.”

YES!!! Most professional secular employers provide ways for employees to gain more knowledge through certifications, classes, and even higher education- tuition reimbursement or paying for them up front. I don't know why the church wouldn't have this as part of their "package," for lack of a better word. It makes so much sense. I realize the goal may be to keep your employees for as long as possible, but investing in them will help them grow for their ministry position as well as for the future.

You have great insight into all of this, and I know it comes from a place of necessity, but thank you for sharing your heart. Continued prayers, I'm sure that sounds empty (I am praying for you though, it is not an empty statement) but God is working through you for sure.

Love y'all so much, David.

Maybe those seeking a degree in Ministry should also be working towards an MBA. We all know that pastors end up becoming the CEO of the church many with little to no experience in what it takes to run a business, let alone a non-profit business.
